Greeks of Canterbury!

If it's down at Manolis' Taverna or out in the Cuban Greeks are always out and about in Canterbury. As a community of students, chefs, lecturers and Residents problems back in the homeland are proving to be a big worry.

Like President Kennedy said to American nation: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." Rigas Goulimaris, A lecturer at Canterbury Christchurch University told us his views on the problems: "It was coming (the economic situation) and I think the politicians knew it was coming and a lot of Greek people knew it was coming. Greece was borrowing really heavily and completely disproportionately and at some point it was going to be the end of that. Now people are refusing to lend money to Greece and it makes sense."

Apart from obvious economic problems, Greeks across the UK like many diaspora are bracing to have top look deep in their pockets to pay for the countries problems. Mr Goulimaris continues: "I don't think this has happened yet because of the fundamentally bureaucratic this country is." But the question is how constructive would support from England be.  With an economic crisis on our own shore, supporting a country with similar problems isn't high in the list of normal English Greeks.
